MBN is dedicated to the idea that the ability to participate in science and conservation is for everyone. To increase access to these opportunities, MBN offers access to free equipment for volunteers around the state via kit hosts.
Kit hosts can be any organization – even those unrelated to natural resources. Kit hosts have ranged from home school groups to major nonprofits. Becoming a kit host can be a great way for organizations to increase interaction with the public and contributions to the community. However, becoming a kit host does come with some responsibilities:
- Kit hosts must maintain communication with MBN, especially before and after field seasons.
- Upon acquiring kits, kit hosts must maintain an inventory of items.
- In order to maintain the goal of making equipment available to all members, kit hosts must enforce that items are to be returned by the end of the season. This will involve recording the contact information for those who rent the equipment. Even if they intend to return the following year, they still need to return it!
Please note that prior recipients of kits were provided this equipment via a grant. While MBN does not have active funds to provide these kits, we can provide information to assemble these kits at very low cost. Please contact us if this interests you.
